Mountain Flower Vase #2
In Japanese the word “yama” as a noun means mountain. As an adjective it can mean important, big, powerful. These Yama Vases reflect the unique process of their creation. The clay is manipulated using non traditional methods to encourage unique textures, surfaces, and gestures all within a massive form which is firmly grounded. The vases are weighting, requiring months of drying and extra long bisque firings. The thick mountainous bodies of these vases allow them to be fired in those parts of the wood kiln where the intensity of heat and flame will destroy weaker forms.
